Ok, so this the the most important time for skincare. I bet if you asked 100 women, a very good percentage of them would say they wished they looked after their skin more in their 20s and 30s.
This is such a great age, you're just figuring yourself out, your coming out of the education system (for most fo us) and you're going into the working world. Maybe you're travelling a lot too.
As amazing as all these things are, they have an impact on your skin so much. Stress from uni work or your job. Pressure from partners to figure out if you 'want the same thing' in your relationships. Partying hard because... well you're a grown up now so why the hell not?!?!? Contraceptive pills/IUDs/Injections etc playing havoc with your skin... and the list goes on... an on...
So, here are some of my tips for ways to look after your skin when you're in this 20-30s age group. Remember, if you can look after it at this age, you'll be golden for the future!
GO AND SEE A FACIALIST
It's so important to get your skincare on track. I would highly recommend visiting a facialist/skincare expert and finding some products that suit your skin. You could even start on some light anti-ageing products at this age too. Prevention is always better than cure!
WEAR AN EYE CREAM
The most important time to start is NOW. Eye creams are so important to keep the eye area in good condition. Look for something that is anti-ageing but also quite light in texture. You don't want anything that can cause you whiteheads and milia.
WEAR AN SPF
All day everyday! Even when the sun is not out your should have an spf on. Don't worry about not getting vitamin D exposure either, you can absorb vitamin D through all parts of your body, not just your face.
GET YOUR ALLERGIES & HORMONE LEVELS CHECKED
Always a good thing to do at an earlier age in my opinion. This can prevent skin troubles and breakouts in the future. Make an appointment with a nutritionist/naturopath who can arrange some allergy testing and hormone checks. They usually will do a blood test for this. Breakouts, skin problems and health issues can be linked to allergies and hormone imbalances. The sooner you get them checked, the less problems you should have in the future.
CLEANSE EVERY NIGHT (AND NOT WITH FACE WIPES!)
It's so important to remove all that dirt and grime off your face before bedtime (even if you don't have any makeup on). Make sure you are using a nice moisturising cleanser (like this one) and not face wipes or harsh face washes. These will strip your skin and make it sensitive and more prone to skin problems.
ALWAYS MOISTURISE
Some people think this step is not always necessary but it really is. Overnight our skin can leak moisture and really become dehydrated if you're not hydrating it. If you don't want a heavy cream, why not try mine. It's super lightweight and yet full of really active and hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, rosehip oil and camellia oil. You can also layer it with The Face Serum and The Face Oil to get the richness that you need
LOOK AFTER YOUR GUT
There is so much about the gut that can affect the rest of our body. Poor gut health can lead to so many problems in the future - some very serious ones at that! Start as soon as you can on a good probiotic and cut back on all the things that can irritate your gut such as sugar, alcohol, dairy, red meat, gluten etc
Increase your fibre intake as well to make sure you are expelling toxins properly.
TAKE A GOOD MULTIVITAMIN
I know some people say they don't work but I'm sorry I disagree. I can totally see and feel the difference when I am taking a good multivitamin. For years I have sworn by Advanced Nutrition Therapy vitamins such as Skin Vitality 1 and Skin Vitality 2. Plus Skinade is amazing! The results I have seen from clients using it are fantastic.
