5 Beauty Products You Don't Need To Buy

There are so many products, devices and goodness know what else on the market right now. Which do you buy? I'm sure you've had it in a store where you're told that you 'have' to buy... (insert highly expensive beauty product here).

What if I told you though that you don't need all these products and gadgets though. Here are my top 5 products that you just don't really need...

1 - MAKEUP PRIMER

Those of you who know me, know I hate this stuff. It's just not necessary at all. Ok, so if you have a big event where you need your makeup to stay all day then use one, but definitely not on a daily basis.

Most primers tend to block pores, dry and irritate the skin and also cause a major imbalance in your oil production. Plus if you have dry skin I would say they are a sure no no.

Instead, use a good quality SPF such as the Nimue SPF40. I use this as a primer everyday. It never blocks my pores and also has a purpose, it's a sun protection!

2 - TONER

What? You mean no cleanse, tone, and moisturise?? Toners are great if they have a true purpose. If you have problematic skin, then a more advanced 'toner style' product can help, but other than that, I personally don't think a product laden with alcohol and witch hazel is necessary. I prefer to use rosewater in the mornings. It's much gentler, the alcohol amount is much lower and it doesn't dry or damage your skin like other toners can.

3 - CLEANSING BRUSHES

Ok, don't get me started! They harbour bacteria, they can cause micro tears in the skin, they spread bacteria, they irritate the skin, they cause sensitivity... no, no, no! It's a gimmick/trend and you just don't need them full stop. Unfortunately influencers were promoting them quite a lot a few years ago and they have seemed to stick around. If you're thinking about buying one... don't! If you have one... use it to clean you oven!

4 - FACE WIPES

Ok, another rant that I usually go on I know. Hurrah though! They are hopefully banning these bad boys as they are so damaging to the environment (plus your skin!). Your cleanser should remove your makeup perfectly without the need for face wipes. They really dry and irritate the skin. They contain so much alcohol to completely destroy the skin's natural barrier and so on...

Keep them in your kitchen cupboard with your cleansing brush to clean your oven with.

5 - FACE WASHES

Ok, so this is a bit of a controversial one I know. When I talk about face washes, I mean your 'run of the mill', high-street style face wash. Unless they are shown to not damage the skin's natural barrier then just steer clear. These washes tend to strip the skin, disrupt your natural oil production and cause a lot of imbalance in the skin (think oily skin but with dry, scaly cheeks and nose at the same time). Avoid anything that foams up and stick to more creamy and oil based cleansers - yes these will work for oily skin too!

So I hope I've saved you some money today and you've got enough space in your kitchen cupboards for all your new oven cleaners ha ha!

Thanks so much for reading,

Emmaline
