I think the majority of us have heard about biotin. It's one of those vitamins that is in most hair, skin and nail supplements. What is it though? Where dies it come from? What's it good for? Where can I get it?
Don't worry, I have all the answers you need!
WHAT IS BIOTIN AND WHERE IS IT FROM?
Also known as vitamin B7, Biotin is a vitamin found in eggs, milk and bananas (to name a few foods).
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
It has many benefits but in this case it can help maintain the healthy functioning of hair, skin and nails. As much as there are not really tests as such to tell if you are deficient in biotin, we can generally tell by the symptoms that come with a deficiency. These tend to be thinning hair and dry and scaly skin around the eyes, nose and mouth.
WHERE CAN I GET IT?
There are plenty of foods that contain biotin, here are some of them...
Egg yolks
Pulses (e.g. beans and lentils)
Nuts and seeds
Sweet potatoes
Mushrooms
Bananas
Broccoli
Avocados
Also, for some of us who feel they need an extra boost, here are some great supplements I recommend that you can take to increase your biotin intake...
- ADVANCED NUTRITION PROGRAMME'S NAIL SCIENCE
Two capsules of Nail Science provide you with 2000mg of biotin which is a whopping 4000% of your RDA! This supplement also contains a brigade of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, lots of other B vitamins, calcium, iron, zinc, copper plus many more.
If you are serious about your hair and nail health, this is the supplement for you!
- SKINADE
Although Skinade is seen as more of a 'collagen' supplement, it also contains an array of other vitamins too including 200mcg of biotin (667% of your RDA!). This is one of the reasons why we see such a great improvement in skin, hair and nail health.
- ADVANCED NUTRITION PROGRAMME'S SKIN VITALITY
Another fantastic supplement that contains (albeit a lower amount) of biotin, but another huge array of vitamins and minerals. This contains 100% of your RDA of biotin and is great as an all round multi-vitamin to boost hair, skin, nail and your overall health.
I hope you've found this post helpful, especially if you're interested in getting more biotin.
Thank you so much for reading,
Lots of love,
Emmaline x
