Yes... You read that right...!
Lately, I’ve been been seeing trends with people asking whether vaginal oestrogen creams can be used on the face to combat aging. The idea makes sense at first glance—oestrogen plays a big role in keeping our skin hydrated and youthful. But before you start applying your prescription cream to your face, let’s talk about why this isn’t as safe or effective as you might think.

Why Are People Doing This?
As we get older, estrogen levels drop, leading to thinner, drier, and less elastic skin—especially post-menopause. Since vaginal oestrogen creams are designed to help with dryness in intimate areas, some people assume they’ll work the same way for facial skin.
And yes, research suggests that topical estrogen can make the skin thicker. But here’s the catch—thicker doesn’t necessarily mean younger-looking or healthier.
The Science Isn’t as Clear as You Might Think
Most studies on topical oestrogen and skin have been done on animals, not humans. So while the results sound promising, we don’t have enough solid evidence to say this is a safe or effective anti-aging solution for the face.
Even more confusing? Some studies found that while estrogen thickened the skin, it actually made deep wrinkles worse. And others suggest it could even increase collagen breakdown, which is the exact opposite of what we want when treating aging skin!

Why You Shouldn’t Use Vaginal Oestrogen Cream on Your Face
You’re Using More Oestrogen Than Your Doctor Recommended: These creams are prescribed in specific doses for vaginal tissue, not for facial skin. Using them on your face could mean absorbing more estrogen than intended, which isn’t ideal for your health.
We Don’t Know the Long-Term Effects: There’s still not enough research to prove that applying oestrogen to the face is safe in the long run.
It Can Cause Skin Sensitivity or Reactions: Facial skin is different from vaginal tissue—it’s thinner in some areas, constantly exposed to environmental damage, and reacts differently to products. Applying a vaginal oestrogen cream could lead to irritation, breakouts, or increased sensitivity.
It Might Not Work the Way You Want It To: The idea of increasing skin thickness sounds good, but if it also makes deep wrinkles more pronounced or breaks down collagen, then it’s not really the anti-aging miracle it’s made out to be.
What Should You Use Instead?
If your goal is to strengthen, hydrate, and smooth your skin, there are far better (and safer) alternatives that are backed by research and formulated for facial use.

1. Retinoids To Rejuvenate and Boost Collagen
Retinoids are clinically proven to stimulate collagen production, improve texture, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles—without the hormone-related risks.
SkinBetter Science AlphaRet Overnight Cream – A powerful but gentle retinoid that reduces the appearance of wrinkles in as little as four weeks. Unlike traditional retinol, it’s designed to be non-irritating and hydrating, making it a fantastic option for sensitive or aging skin.
Nimue Retinal Power+ Serum – This advanced serum combines two encapsulated retinoids to deliver all the benefits of Vitamin A without irritation. It’s perfect for rejuvenating aging and environmentally damaged skin.
2. Peptides To Strengthen and Lift the Skin
Peptides help stimulate collagen and improve skin elasticity, making them a great alternative to estrogen-based skincare.
Meder Arma-Lift Beauty Mask – Packed with EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), peptides, and antioxidants, this sheet mask firms, hydrates, and visibly lifts the skin while reducing pigmentation and dark circles.
3. Hyaluronic Acid For Long Lasting Hydration
Hyaluronic acid is essential for maintaining moisture and plumpness, especially as the skin naturally loses hydration with age.
Forlle’d Basing Emulsion – A lightweight yet deeply nourishing emulsion that locks in moisture, strengthens the skin barrier, and protects against dehydration. It also creates a breathable, protective film, making it ideal for harsh weather conditions.
4. Antioxidants: Protect and Brighten
Antioxidants shield the skin from environmental stress and help prevent collagen breakdown.
SkinBetter Science Alto Advanced – A next-generation antioxidant serum that combines Vitamin C, E, and 17 additional antioxidants to provide powerful protection against both external and internal aging factors. Clinically proven to brighten skin and improve tone and texture.
I know it’s tempting to try the latest skincare trend, especially when it sounds scientific. But when it comes to hormones and skincare, more isn’t always better.
