So my last post was all about beauty products that you just don't need to buy. Why not have a read here if you haven't already.
There are however, some products that you really do need in your repertoire. Here are my top five beauty products that you shouldn't be able to live without...
1 - A GOOD CLEANSER
If you are cleansing your face with the wrong products (think harsh face washes and face wipes), all the serums, face creams, masks etc in the world will not do anything. Your cleanser is your CORE beauty product and if it's not the right one it can send your whole skincare routine out of whack! Look for oil based cleansers such as The Cleansing Beauty Balm or something more creamy. Avoid anything that foams up or comes in the form of a wipe!
2 - A STACK OF 'CHEAP AS CHIPS' FLANNELS
Those who know me will know I love a good flannel. Not the fancy, expensive ones, not the weird 'use them once and then they look like a dirty dishcloth' muslin cloths. I'm talking about the 20 pence cheap ones from Wilko/Tesco/Sainsburys etc. They are soft enough so they don't scratch the skin like muslin cloths, but have enough 'cheapness' to them that they do a nice exfoliation when you use them. They are thin enough to get around the 'nooks and crannies' of the face and help give your skin a really good cleanse. Buy a stack of around 10 in black (so they don't stain from makeup).
Wash them all by themselves a couple of times so you don't end up with a sink of black water. Then stack them on your bathroom shelf to use each day. Use one, throw it in the wash and so on...
3 - A GENTLE BUT EFFECTIVE EXFOLIATOR
Such an important product in your beauty regime. Avoid harsh scrubs (a.k.a. St Ives Apricot Scrub) and any kind of non-degradable bead that damages the environment.
I love the my Exfoliating Pearls and also the Nimue Exfoliating Enzyme. They are both super gentle and yet are really effective as well.
4 - A LIGHT MOISTURISER
We all need a moisturiser in my opinion. Something super light is perfect for most skin types. Anything that is really rich can actually make the skin drier believe it or not. Think about luxury face creams that are super thick. What they do is make the skin become lazy. It doesn't have to work for itself because it's just waiting for you to slather on some super heavy cream, therefore it becomes drier and drier.
Struggling with dry skin? Learn to layer your products up depending on what you need each day. Try layering The Face Serum and The Face Cream together to give more richness without making your skin 'lazy'.
5 - A HIGH QUALITY SUN PROTECTION
If you use nothing else at all, make sure you use a SPF. I aways recommend the Nimue SPF 40 as it's a high quality UVA and UVB protection. It doesn't block pores, is not greasy and also has extra skin benefits along with just SPF.
Your SPF should be the last thing you apply in your skincare routine and can be used as a primer instead of those nasty ones I rage on about!
Thanks so much for reading,
